Old suitcase love

Thrifting was good! I found these suitcases to cover an empty corner and provide storage for old photos waiting to be scrapbooked. I especially love the top one. It is leather and has that patina that only genuinely worn old leather gets. So sad that I need them all to store photos we've taken and not done anything with ~yet.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is a very special day....my mommy's birthday! My mom is wonderful~creative, intelligent, very, very nice....and I love her! Of all the Moms in this world, I got the BEST one for my very own. (as David Letterman says, "don't write in, folks!") Happy Birthday, Mom, and thanks for everything you've done for me and taught me. Most of all, thanks for always being there and loving me.

A pretty thrifting find

So lucky, so lucky! I found these four beautiful, softly colored dessert plates at the thrift store for $1.00. NOT $1.00 each, but all four for $1.00! It's almost silly how happy a thrift find can make me....I do hope someone out there can relate to that! In the meantime...(sung to the tune of "we're in the money...") I'm so very lucky! I'm so very lucky! I'm so very......

Easter artwork

I saw a similar version of this on someone's blog...so sorry I don't remember whose...but it was beautiful! [edited to add: the original is at "Under a Blue Moon"Thanks for the inspiration!] I thought I'd try my hand at making this with materials I had on hand. The egg/nest image is from a vintage holiday image cd I bought a while ago on ebay. The frame was thrifted for 50 cents. The faux chocolate bunny next to the frame is adorable and so realistic I just want to take a hunk out of his ear!I found him on ebay, too, and just received him today. Oh, the Easter cuteness!

We've had such nice weather that I couldn't resist getting out the spring decorations. This banner is one I bought on ebay. Too bad the photos don't show the dripping, diamond-like glitteryness of it! I really need to work on my photography skills! This mirror is one of my favorite pieces...it was, in its sad former life, a gold color. Priming, painting 2 coats of white and adding a little antiquing helped it to look light, happy and joyful. I love it!

A day off work

Today, thanks to my fourth grader, B, 9, I had the day off work. It was parent teacher conference day and my usual sitter had plans with her kids and couldn't watch him. Sooooooo I used the (welcome) excuse and planned a vacation day.

We stayed up late last night, got up late this morning and ate bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. We usually try to eat more healthy at breakfast, but it was a special day, you see!

We played video games--yes, we--as one way to celebrate. We went to parent teacher conference (where the darling boy got glowing remarks!!!! yay!!!) and then to lunch. Then B went to play at a friends' house.

Well, well, well. Me with a couple of hours on my hands. What to do? Laundry? Change the bed linens? Vacuum the living room? NO. I baked. Delicious little treats that I tried when I discovered Silver Bell Cottage's blog. (I'm having linking trouble, but you can find Alexandra's wonderful blog at http://silverbellcottage.blogspot.com/) They are yummy and very easy to make. Now....for a cup of tea and one of these little yummies while they're still warm and the house is still quiet!

Blessing Candle

I received this "blessing candle" from a blogging friend....and I'd like to share it with all of you. It will bring you the blessings you need, and can be passed around to others who might have need of it. I especially send it to my friend Kerrie, who is having a difficult time in life just now.
